Who’s Who

Jorge Gómez Pastor Jorge Gómez is the Founder of the Abraham Project and a native of Costa Rica. During his tenure in the ministry, he has coordinated several evangelical events and pastoral training conferences on both the national and international levels. He has founded several churches and worked with a youth movement that helps youth find their call in the ministry. He was also instrumental in establishing the first interdenominational missionary agency of Costa Rica. Pastor Gómez is currently the pastor of Lighthouse Community Christian Church. His heart’s desire is for people to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and to meet the needs of the people around him. He and his wife Elizabeth have two grown children.
Steve & Georgiana Thomas Stephen, Georgiana, and their four children have served as missionaries in Costa Rica since August 1997. Over the years, their responsibilities have included (among other things): receiving and organizing short-term mission teams, raising awareness and funds for the Abraham Project, receiving interns, and serving as “Tíos” or substitute house parents for the Children’s Homes. They currently serve as Administrators for the homes, which aid children at risk. Their heart is for the children of Costa Rica who cannot defend themselves and they help provide a safe place for those children to grow in the knowledge of who they are in Christ.
Aarón & Candace Espinoza-Brown Candace has been a member of the Abraham Project team since March 2003. She came to Costa Rica with the purpose of volunteering for a humanitarian organization that focuses on women and children. She has worked in many aspects of the Project including six years as Team Coordinator, two years as Children’s Home Administrative Assistant, and as of January 2011, she and Aarón are now one of two new sets of house parents. Candace married Aarón Espinoza in 2005, and they have shared their lives with the church serving in many capacities. Aarón lends his time as one of the music directors and runs the sound system at the Lighthouse Community Christian Church at the Project. Both Candace and Aarón enjoy their service with the Abraham Project and encourage others to join in this endeavor to be a haven and refuge for the hurting and unprotected.

Jonathan & Amy Griffith Jonathan and Amy met while doing mission work in India in 2003. They were married in 2004 and entered the mission field full-time in India in 2005. From India, the Lord led them to the Abraham Project in Costa Rica, where they have been since January of 2008. Their vision is to develop the intern program into a missions-based discipleship opportunity for young men and women. Their desire is to see God raise up life-long laborers of all ages (at home or abroad) among short-term volunteers. Jason & Kerby Harpst Jason and Kerby met while working at Trane Company in 2006. Jason was working there as an Engineer and Kerby as a summer employee while she finished her schooling as a Special Education Teacher. They were married in the fall of 2008 and discussed the possibility of full time missions as a family. God called them into the mission field full-time in mid-2009 and they made preparations to move to Costa Rica in June 2010. Now that Jason and Kerby have finished taking Spanish classes, they will partner with the Abraham Project in a number of ways in the near future such as: coordinating short-term teams and filling in at the Children’s Homes on the house parents’ days off.  If you would like information about leading a mission team to Costa Rica, please visit the Mission Trips section of our website.
Esteban and Gabriela, along with their daughter, Valeria, joined the Abraham Project team in January 2011. After going through an arduous screening process, they responded to God’s call on their lives to serve as house parents in the Children’s Homes. They firmly believe that God has called them to a ministry of love and compassion, which benefits the at-risk children in their immediate care.
