Child Sponsorship
Introduction:
The Children’s Homes at the Abraham Project are one of the five ministry areas. At this time there are three homes, two of which are in operation with a maximum capacity of twenty children total. As part of Phase 2, an extension plan for further construction, we will potentially be building two additional Children’s Homes on a tract of land that was recently purchased.
What makes our Children’s Homes special is that they function with a family model. Each home is run primarily by a set of house parents called “tios”, who live in the home with their own children
The children we receive at the Abraham Project come from difficult situations where it was necessary to remove them from their homes. About half of these children will be returned to their parents or other family members. The other half will eventually be declared ‘abandoned’ meaning that all parental rights are removed and the PANI (Costa Rican child welfare) begins to search for an adoptive family. The adoptions out of the Abraham Project are about 50/50 international to domestic adoptions.
In order to maintain our rights to raise the children in a Christian environment, we do not receive any funding from the Costa Rican government. Therefore we rely solely on a base of donors who sponsor the children and are able to sow into their lives by their financial contributions.
